ITC provides 20 MB of free storage for you to store your personal web page, photographs, or other files. The instructions below cover a wide variety of situations.

The url for your page is http://www.itctel.com/yourusername (a www. after http:// is optional, but not necessary). The location, or host, to upload to id ftp://web.itctel.com. (If you are using a web-authoring program that does not have a built-in uploading capabilities, you may need an FTP program to upload your web page. A copy of WS_FTP-LE, a freeware FTP program, is stored in this web site with instructions (see below of instructions.)

Microsoft FrontPage Instructions:

  1. Click "File"
  2. Click "Publish Web"
  3. In the window marked "Specify the location to publish you web to" type: ftp://web.itctel.com
  4. Click the "Publish" Button

If a Microsoft FrontPage Error message such as this appears: "This server you are publishing to does not have FrontPage Server Extensions installed, and therefore does not support publishing via HTTP. To continue publishing, specify a location that will work with FTP" just click ok. Then you will need to change the location to "http://itctel.com" to "ftp://web.itctel.com. Now click the "Publish Button.

FTP Instructions:

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) programs simply perform the job of transferring files from one computer to another. For your convenience a copy of WS_FTP-LE has been placed on this web site for you to download.

  1. Go to: http://www.itctel.com/testtube
  2. Click on the ws_ftple.exe file
  3. Choose "Run the program from its current location
  4. Click "Yes" to everything that comes up.
  5. Make sure you specify the folder to which you want the program to download.

This is a free program. Your installation will go more smoothly if you choose "student" and '"home use" to the question during the installation.

If you are using FTp to upload and manage your web files use the follow instructions:

  1. Save your web page files using the file name of index.html (this file name and extension is necessary.)
  2. Copy your index.html file and all additional files (photos, graphics, linked pages, etc.) to your web directory.

To access your FTP site for uploading your web files

Set up the FTP program as follows. Note-When you first open the FTP program, a "site manager" window should appear where you enter this info:

  1. Site label: your name (this only labels the site on your FTP program, so it's not critical)
  2. Host Address: web.itctel.com
  3. User ID: your username
  4. Password: your password
  5. Login Type: normal
  6. Other settings: leave at their default values.

When you connect to the FTP Program:

  1. Your web directory in the right pane
  2. Your local computer directory will be in the left
  3. Find your files in your computer on the left
  4. Highlight these files
  5. Click the arrow pointing to the right. This will transfer the files from the left panel to the white space on the right panel.

Other Tips:

Photos - If you are just uploading photographs:

    1. Save the photos in .jpg or other photo format of your choice
    2. Log in to your FTP site
    3. Highlight the photos you want to upload
    4. Click the right pointing arrow to transfer your photos to the right panel

Web Formatted Files:

  1. The page has to be written in html or using an html editor.
  2. When you save your web site, you must name this page index.html

Uploading files into the root directory (the "Remote Site" will just show a slash (/) of you ITC ftp directory.)

  • The URL for your page is http://www.itctel.com/your username (the "www." is optional but not necessary.) ITC uses a Linux server as apposed to a windows server, it will not support some of the more advanced Microsoft FrontPage extensions, such as Microsoft's hit counters. If you keep your work reasonably basic you should be fine.

FTP from a Web Browser - You can transfer files from a Web Browser, such as Microsoft Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

  • Open an FTP session with a web browser
  • In the address or location bar, type the address as follows: ftp:// username:yourpassowrd@web.itctel.com
  • This will reveal the files and folders in your web directory. You can then drag-and-drop your files into the appropriate directory, or use the web browser's "upload" function (if it has one.)
