Frequently Asked Questions
What is Best Seat Video?
Best Seat Video is the newest member of the ITC family of businesses. It is a multiple service platform delivering digital video, high-speed Internet access, and voice telephone service over the existing copper wires that serve your home today with telephone service.
What is VDSL?
VDSL (very high bit rate digital subscriber line) is a new and exciting technology that allows digital video, Internet, and telephone service to operate at the same time, over the existing telephone wire entering your home. VDSL offers the same upstream and downstream transmission speeds.
What is ADSL?
ADSL (asynchronous digital subscriber line) is a product that allows Internet and telephone service to operate at the same time, over the existing telephone wire entering your home. This product is offered to most customers outside the VDSL access area. ADSL offers a lower upstream than downstream transmission speed.
How does VDSL enter my home?
VDSL service makes use of the existing copper wires providing voice telephone service to your home today. The TVs in your home will continue to use the existing coaxial wire connecting them, we make the connection from the residential gateway (Set-Top Box) to your house TV wiring. If you subscribe to Vroom Internet access service, we also install data cable from the Set-Top Box to your PC location. Our PC technicians will visit your home and set your PC up for Vroom Internet access.
What equipment is needed to access Best Seat Video?
We provide a Set-Top Box for all customers. The Set-Top Box is about the size of a VCR and can be located at the home entertainment center or in a central location such as a basement. We suggest the Set-Top Box be installed near your primary television to make the most use of the advanced video and audio features. You are provided with one remote control. The Set-Top Box does require access to a standard 110AC electrical outlet. ITC retains ownership of the Set-Top Box.
How long does it take to install Best Seat?
Installation time will vary based upon the Set-Top Box location and the amount of inside wiring necessary to complete the work to your satisfaction. For the typical installation you should allow approximately two hours.
How will I be billed?
Best Seat Video and Vroom will be billed with your local telephone service. Your first bill will be larger than a normal monthly bill because it will include pro-rated charges for the current billing cycle, plus full charges for the next month. So depending on when Best Seat is installed, your first bill could be for up to two months’ service. Also, if you require installation services in excess of what is included in our "free installation" offer, those charges will appear on your first bill as well. If you’d like to pre-pay a portion of your first bill, we’d be glad to arrange that.
Can I operate more than three TVs from one Set-Top Box?
Yes. Additional remotes are available for subscribers to purchase. However, one Set-Top Box only provides three different programs simultaneously, so if more than three sets are being watched at one time, each set beyond three will have to watch the same program as one of the three primary sets.
Can I get a second Set-Top Box and watch more than three channels simultaneously?
Additional Set-Top Boxes are available at the same price as your original service. Each Set-Top Box requires an additional phone line. Your service representative can give you the details.
Do I need a phone jack for the Set-Top Box?
A phone jack is required if you subscribe to Caller ID or voice mail. A Caller ID and/or voice mail notification will appear on your TV screen. During installation the jack is installed free of charge.
If I have Vroom, do I still need to dial-up to access the Internet?
No. Best Seat Video & Vroom Internet service is always on and you simply click open your mail or browser program to activate your Internet service.
If I have Vroom, can I talk on the phone, watch TV, and use the Internet simultaneously?
Yes. One of the really great features of VDSL is that your phone line is not tied up when you use the Internet and watch TV!
Will I be charged extra if I need a new TV outlet installed? (See attachment)
For a limited time during our start-up period we will install two new TV outlets in your home without an additional charge. If you need more than two installed during the initial Best Seat installation, we charge $20 per wire run.
Will the technicians have to drill holes in my walls?
The technicians will do everything possible to not expose any wiring. Where it is necessary to expose wire, they will advise you how they will have to run the wire and receive your permission to leave wire exposed. Drilling might be necessary.
Who takes care of disconnecting my current television service?
The customer is responsible for disconnecting any existing television services. We advise all new Best Seat customers NOT to disconnect existing service until Best Seat is installed and operational.
Do I need a surge protector?
ITC recommends customers purchase quality surge protectors to prevent damage to equipment such as TVs, VCRs, computers and stereo equipment. Customers can buy surge protectors from ITC or a retail store. We suggest purchasing protectors that carry a "connected equipment warranty."
What kinds of sports programming do you carry?
We offer four ESPN channels – including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic and ESPN News. We also have The Golf Channel, the Speed Channel and the Outdoor Channel. We also have all the local broadcast channels, including FOX, PAX, ABC, CBS, and NBC. The local FOX affiliate, KTTW out of Sioux Falls, carries Vikings games.
